Moisture-retention level increases with an extra drip of facial oil!

  7. Hydrating Nail Essence For Healthy Nails
If you are a big nail-art lover, you should protect your nails now!
Keep your nails hydrated & healthy simply with Aloe Vera Soothing Gel.

Personally, I would not use this on the face especially if you have dry skin. Unless you wipe it off after a period of time and use it as a sheet mask, it may dry out the skin even more. I use it mainly on the body as a moisturizer and aftershave soothing gel. I can see it as a hydrating nail essence or a hair treatment.

Ingredients:

Aloe vera leaf extract (92%), ethanol, glyceryl polyacrylate, dipropylene glycol, butyleneglycol, glycerin, propylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, polyglutamic acid, betaine , Sodium hyaluronate, Karen dulcis extract, spearmint extract, lemon balm extract, carbomer, phage-60 hydrogenated castor oil, triethanolamine, phenoxyethanol, purified water, disodium DTA

It’s a pretty good list with the usual preservatives, skin plumpers, and hydration ingredients. All of the products are safe but the phenoxyethanol can be problematic sometimes. It may cause drying and irritation but very seldom does it do that. It naturally occurs in green tea but when used in a skincare product it is almost always synthetic. It’s a common preservative and is considered safe by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel. The gel obviously has a very high content of Aloe Vera which is amazing.  It also has some extra ingredients like betaine which will temporarily decrease the appearance of wrinkles and smooth out the skin. The spearmint extract has the potential to help acne since spearmint has a reasonable content of salicylic acid. Overall, the ingredient list is quite good. I’m not sure why it was slightly drying for me.

Price: 300 mL

Nature Republic Site: $6.60 (not including shipping)

Amazon: $7.20 (including free shipping)

There is a substantial amount of product and the price is not bad. Sometimes there will be a sale and the product will sell for about 3 dollars which is a steal. I have used this for a year and I still have not run out. I have about half left.

Light gel texture, slightly tacky

The Run-Down:

It’s definitely affordable and the ingredient list is very safe. There isn’t any ingredient that stands out to me in terms of good or bad. The texture is very light and watery. It does provide a sense of cooling for a minute or two. I wouldn’t consider this gel to be an especially gentle product but it could work as a super light summer moisturizer. It leaves a light film on the skin which Nature Republic advertises as the base for makeup. It stings a little so if your skin is very sensitive I wouldn’t recommend putting it on a sunburn or a dry patch. It has an artificial smell which probably comes from the dipropylene glycol. The scent I believe the gel is going for is refreshing like a rainforest but it has a strong alcohol smell in addition to the artifical refreshing scent. It is a flexible product with its seven possible uses.

Pros and Cons:

PROS

  • Relatively inexpensive (especially if you get it on sale)
  • Solid ingredient list
  • Might help acne
  • High aloe vera content
  • Lots of product
  • Very light
  • Very watery
  • Did not break me out

CONS

  • Slightly stings if skin is dry or sensitive
  • Smells very fake

Who Should Use:

People with combination skin to oily skin will probably like this product the most. I think it would be best to layer this with other products and use this last. If your skin is generally very calm, this would make a good light moisturizer. I prefer to use it on my body as it works very well to moisturize the skin that is not on my face. If you are looking for a gift, this is a pretty safe purchase. Even if you don’t end up liking it on your face, you can use it on your body, fingers, and hair. It’s probably the versatility of this product that makes it so popular. The mulitpurpose aspect of this gel makes it a product everyone can use.

I would give this 3.5 punches. It’s does the job but on my acne prone, sensitive skin it just doesn’t help. It works well primarily as a body moisurizer.

  1. I love and loathe aloe vera. It always helps me with whatever sunburn I might have, and I have had some really bad burns before. But whenever I need the aloe vera it means that I have a sunburn and that is why I unconsciously connect the gel with pain.

You did a really wonderful job with reviewing this product! 🙂
