Hey guys! So before, I reviewed the GlamGlow Glowstarter, which was said to be super hyped up in the beauty community. Today, I’m reviewing the GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment Mask, another highly praised product by GlamGlow. With 5000 reviews on Sephora’s website, we need to see if the hefty $59 price tag is worth it.
Claims:
On Sephora’s website it says this product is,
“A clarifying mask with six exfoliating acids and activated charcoal that visibly clears pores and improves the complexion of normal, combination, and acne-prone skin. This advanced clearing treatment instantly fights skin imperfections and skin problems, and is suitable for acne-prone skin. Kaolin clay, activated-x charcoal, and the Super Six Acid Blend instantly work together to target skin congestions, clogged pores, and dead skin cell buildup, resulting in clearer, poreless-looking skin.”
Essentially, this product claims to be a mudmask that clears skin and unclogs pores. Let’s see if it holds up!
Ingredients:
Water, Kaolin, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Mandelic Acid, Carbon, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf, Tartaric Acid, Pyruvic Acid, Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Powder, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Hedera Helix (Ivy) Extract, Symphytum Officinale (Comfrey) Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Peg-12 Dimethicone, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Butylene Glycol, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Hectorite, Hexylene Glycol, Glycerin, Calendula Officinalis Extract, Maltodextrin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance (Parfum), Limonene, Benzyl Benzoate, Linalool, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Iron Oxides (Ci 77499).
The product really emphasize the Super Six Acid Blend which is a blend of Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid, Tartaric Acid, and Pyruvic Acid. These acids are meant to unclog pores and help the natural cell renewal. However, if you have sensitive skin, intense concentrations of these acids might not be for you. These acids are great for fighting acne, especially salicylic acid, so if you don’t have sensitive skin, this might be effective. Some things that I dont like in here are Fragrance (a reacurring ingredient in the other GlamGlow products), Limonene, Benzyl Benzoate, Linalool, and Phenoxyethanol. All of these products are meant to create fragrance, which has no benefit for the skin and are possible allergens or irritations for the skin. Had this product not contained these unnecessary ingredients, the product would have had a pretty decent ingredient list with great acids like Mandelic Acid, exfoliating and moisturizing the skin.

It’s a pretty steep price tag so the worth will really need to be justified.
The Run-Down:
There have been a few times where I have slapped this mask on and my pimple has truly shrunk. There are also countless times where I use this and nothing happens. It may depend on the stage of the acne and what type of acne it is. Overall, I would say this mud mask is pretty mild in absorbing sebum, but it does control oil production to some extent. On my combination skin, this product felt really gentle and usually I use this as an overnight spot treatment to find my sebum has soaked through and the mask is no longer dry. If you are looking for a miracle mud mask to clear your acne, this is not it. For that I would recommend using the Aztec Mud Mask as a spot treatment. Although it is not a miracle worker, it is more effective than most. I do like the effect this mud mask has on the blackheads and pores on my nose. I do see a slight difference in the cleanliness of my pores and the shine in my skin when I use this. Although for a steep price tag of about $50? I don’t know if I would say that it’s worth it. I just feel as though the effect is not uncommonly acheived by more afforable mud masks, and the presence of some irritating ingredients could be the cause of the bipolar reviews this product gets. Some reviews rave about it but some reviews cite burning sensations, more breakouts, and irritation.

- ARTIFICIAL FRAGRANCE (I really get turned off by artificial fragrance because of all the unknown ingredients that get cast under this broad title)
Who Should Use:
If your skin is oily or oily combination (not sensitive) and you are acne prone or looking to shrink your pores, this may be helpful for you. The scent (although FAKE) is pretty calming and leaves the skin pretty soft and moisturized. So if you’re looking to blow a little cash, you could purchase this.

I can’t deny the nice temporary effect this mask has on my skin, but I also can’t stop looking at the $59 price tag and wondering if this mask is truly worth it when there are so so so many cheaper mud masks out there…

I once got this in a travel size set of three and it burnt me severely while also doing nothing for my skin! Do not recommend for sensitive skin in particular like you say.
