Hey guys! So recently I’ve been really looking at the skincare at Costco, and I have to say, I’m super impressed with the price point and quality. If you guys want to see me do a review of Costco skincare products let me know down below! Anyways, a few months ago I picked up a double pack of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel, and it’s not Korean, but I thought it was worth a shot.
Claims:
In Neutrogena’s website they claim
“Neutrogena® Hydro Boost Water Gel instantly quenches dry skin and keeps it looking smooth, supple and hydrated day after day. Our award-winning and best selling water gel formula absorbs quickly and instantly delivers intense hydration. And it contains hydrating hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the skin and acts as a sponge, absorbing up to 1,000 times its weight in water. This formula leaves skin more supple and smooth.
Plus, it’s an oil-free moisturizer, so you can wear it alone or under makeup as a smooth, velvety primer.”
The key selling point of this moisturizer is the hyaluronic acid so let’s take a look at the ingredients!
Ingredients:
Water, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Dimethicone/vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Polyacrylamide, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Dimethiconol, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Chlorphenesin, Carbomer, Laureth-7, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance, C12-14 Pareth -12, Sodium Hydroxide, Blue 1
A few things jump out to me and sadly some of them are disappointing. One of them is the presence of dimethicone. Dimethicone is a chemical that fills in pores and leaves the skin feeling silky smooth while creating a barrier against harsh weather conditions. The danger of dimethicone however, is it’s risk of clogging pores and worsening acne. This definitely changes from person to person so I wouldn’t rule out this product unless you know that silicone-based products irritate your skin because this product is somewhat similar to a primer. Another concern I have, although milder, is Chlorphenesin. Chlorphenesin has been reported to cause irritation and dermatities in people with dry and sensitive skin. I also do not love the presence of artificial fragrance and coloring. Overall, I’m not loving the ingredients list but people have lots of different skin needs and different combinations of ingredients will satisfy them.

The Run-Down:
Despite the really disappointing and risky ingredient list, I kind of liked this moisturizer. It is really light and gives a nice cooling sensation that calms me down before I go to bed or when I wake up. However, I can’t help but think about the fragrance and the artificial coloring that creates the nice pleasant smell and pleasing color. Also, because this moisturizer is so light, I believe it is not meant for people with dry or sensitive skin, especially looking at the inclusion of Chlorphenesin in the ingredient list. Yet I don’t believe I have broken out from this product and as an oily/combination kind of skintype, this product does make my skin feel nice and smooth. Yet is that because of the dimethicone? It’s risky business for sure.

- not good for dry skin
Who Should Use:
Definitely people with oily skin will enjoy this much more than people with dry skin. This moisturizer alone is really not the way to glass skin so if that’s what you’re looking for, I would recommend you look at some moisturizing serums. I definitely don’t feel a ton of moisture from this cream, so just keep that in mind.

It’s okay. Not great, but not bad. Personally, I enjoy it but the moisture is definitely lacking. I will continue to look for the perfect moisturizer
