Vita Skin Lab Peeling Gel

IMG_0913.jpeg

Hi guys! So this is another exfoliator #exfoliatormarathon and although this one is a little less known than the Skinfood one, I figured I should still review it because it comes up a lot on the Wishtrend website. So here we go!

Claims:

On the Wishtrend website it says, “The Skin&Lab Dr. Vita Gently Vita Exfoliator gently exfoliates sensitive skin. The natural cellulose controls the dead skin gently enough for sensitive skin, while vitamins complete the skin to clear look.” For starters, I definitely agree with the sensitive and gentle part of the claims. This exfoliator is so gentle it almost feels like nothing is happening. But we’ll get more into that later.

Key Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Quaternium-60, Propylene Glycol, Carbomer, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract, Pentylene Glycol, Lactose, Cellulose, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose,Niacinamide, Ascorbic Acid, Tocopherol, Panthenol, Mannitol, Retinol, Polysorbate 20, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-10 Diisostearate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Butylene Glycol,Bromelain, Papain, Menadione, Caprylyl Glycol, Caffeine, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance(Parfum), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Red 4 (CI 14700)

The first ingredient is *drumroll please* … water. Pretty anticlimactic if you ask me. Next we have Glycerin, a humectant found in lots of cleansers. It helps to cut down sebum while still retaining moisture from the air. Third on the list is Quaternium-60, a conditioning agent used to smooth the skin. Some notable ingredients are Ascorbic Acid, Niacinamide, Papain, and Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract. Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract is also known as sea buckthorn and can be used to soothe and calm cracked red skin. Niacinamide is one of the main contributor to the “vitamin” aspect of this product as Niacinamide is water soluble vitamin that works with the natural substances in your skin to improve pore size, uneven skin tone, wrinkles, dullness, and skin barrier. Overall, an extraordinary ingredient that I’m really happy to see here. We also have Absorbic Acid, a common form of Vitamin C. If you are not familiar with Vitamin C, it’s a skincare junkie favorite as it is pretty effective in brightening your skin tone. Papain is another interesting ingredient. It’s basically papaya extract, which is very effective in reknewing the skin to fight wrinkles and acne. Overall, this ingredient list looks pretty decent, with some interesting ingredients that I have not seen in very many products.

These are the rubbery shavings I’m talking about. It’s not dead skin.

The Run-Down:

I’m going to be blunt, this product didn’t really do it for me. The “dead skin” you see when using this product is mostly the product balling up from a gel into rubbery shavings. My skin is noticeably softer after using this exfoliator, but not smoother. I do feel as though smooth skin is much more difficult to attain compared to soft skin but it is possible. To be honest, I’m kind of disappointed. I was hoping for a brightening effect or at least a little more even skin tone but none of it happened for me. If you have super sensitive skin this might work for you but since the ingredient list also contains fragrance I would be wary.

Pros and Cons:

PROS

  • Interesting ingredients
  • Softens skin

CONS

  • Doesn’t smooth or brighten
  • Water as first ingredient
  • Contains fragrance (mildly strong)

Who Should Use:

People with really sensitive skin or those who have pretty good skin already might enjoy this as a very gentle exfoliator.

Rating:

⭐⭐

2/5 Stars

Kind of unfortunate really. I would not purchase again. However, I don’t think this is a testament to Vita Skin Lab’s products. They have some really interesting products.
