Snails and their slimy, gooey, sticky, mucin. I can’t wait to put that on my skin! This trend is definitely an eye catcher but does it really work? Cosrx’s snail essence consists of 96% snail mucin hence the 96. I know, clever.
Claims:
On the Cosrx website they claim, “this essence protects the skin from moisture loss while keeping the skin texture smooth and healthy. This essence is created from nutritious, low-stimulation filtered snail mucin in order to keep your skin moisturized all day while bringing back your skin’s vitality. The filtered snail mucin replenishes and revitalizes nutrients with looking healthy skin. It’s suitable for all skin types. For best results, use together with Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream.”

How To Use:
After cleansing and toning, apply a small amount on your entire face. Gently pat using fingertips to aid absorption, and then go forth with your moisturizers. (A little goes a long way. One pump is all it takes to cover my face.)
Ingredients:
Snail Secretion Filtrate, Betaine, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, Arginine, Allantoin, Ethyl Hexanediol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol
As you can tell, snail mucin (Snail Secretion Filtrate) is at the top of the list, generally indicating that it is the main ingredient in the product. The only ingredients that might ring an alarm are Ethyl Hexanediol which is an alcohol but is okay in small quantities and Phenoxyethanol which is mainly for rinse off products. In this case, both ingredients are towards the end of the list and we already know the product has 96% snail mucin so there should be no worries.
Price:
100 mL
Soko Glam – $19 (not including shipping)
Amazon – $14.04 (including shipping)
The price is a little steep on Soko Glam but a solid deal on Amazon.

The Run-Down:
It’s suuuuuper sticky and gooey (as to be expected from snail mucin). It stretches like gum in a satisfying sort of way. This essence works well on the skin, absorbing quickly. At first it feels like a thin film is coating your skin but it fades away very quickly. It feels thick in texture but it’s light on the skin. It’s a great moisturizer, it leaves my skin feeling soft but the effect is not as strong after some time. The Arginine is suppose to heal acne and acne scars but don’t expect a super significant change. It was more of a moisturizer that could also help my acne rather than an acne treatment.
Pros and Cons:
PROS
- Didn’t break me out
- Moisturizes well
- Plumps skin
- Is fun to touch
- Lasted me about a year
- Sanitary bottle (pump)
- Great Ingredient List
- No Strong Smell
CONS
- Need to use for a long time to see difference in acne scars
Who Should Use:
If you are thinking of buying, you should keep in mind that it functions primarily as a moisturizer. It probably will not whisk away your acne problems (which is what I thought it would do) but it will help over long term use. For people with dry skin, this alone is far from enough, especially in the winter in a dry area. But, if you are using this as a part of your multi step routine, it’s a great addition. This essence suits combo and oily skin as it won’t break you out but it will moisturize your face nicely. You should still apply a little more cream or moisturizer to top it off especially if it’s dry but it’s a good product for everyone.
Rating:
4/5 punches. The ingredient list is beautifully short and simple as well as safe, natural, and effective. It will definitely help you on your way to great skin but it isn’t a genie bottle that will whisk away your troubles. I will probably buy this again.
